Angelo, Texas, Weekly Standard, Oct. 19, 1962 DEATHS Mrs. White, Stricken In Church Mrs. Archie Lee (Oneda) White, 38, of 2316 Raney, a resident of San Angelo 10 years, died of a heart attack suffered while she was attending services at Calvary Lutheran Church Wednesday night. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m.

Saturday in Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. P. Kensing, pastor, ing. assisted by the Rev.

H. B. Watson, pastor of Trinity Lutheran of Miles. Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Mrs.

White suffered the attack while at church services and a friend, whose husband is a Goodfellow AFB man, called the base mbulance. Mrs. White rushed to the hospital but was dead on arrival. Justice of the Peace 0. L.

(Pop) Miller ruled death due to natural causes. Mrs. White was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Hamilton County. was an employe of General Telephone Co.

Federal Credit Union. She and her husband were married in Victoria Nov. 10, 1948. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband: her parents, Dr.

and Mrs. L. C. Renken of Miles: one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Tumlinson of San Angelo: and one brother.

Weldon Fred Renken, who is serving in the Navy. C. S. Carson, 65, Of San Angelo; Services Today Clarence Stafford Carson, 65, of 1317 Preusser resident of San Angelo for 42 years. died at 10:05 a.m.

Oct. Shannon Hospital. Services were held at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 in Robert Massie Funeral Chapel with the Rev.

Dr. Richard Crews, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. He educaby McNabb, tional director. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery. Carson was born April 25, 1897.

in Shreveport, La. He was reared in Marshall where he attended school. He married Miss Jeff Simmons May 22, 1946, in San Angelo. He was a veteran of World War: and the Mexican campaign. He was a member of the 133rd machine gun battalion of the 36th Division.

Mr. Carson served overseas in France and was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Citation. He belonged to the VFW and the D. A. V.

Survivors include his wife; one son, S. Sgt. William A. Carson of Randolph Field. San Antonio: one brother, Arthur G.

Carson, 1317 Preusser three sisters, Mrs. Karl Poorter and Mrs. Charles Parker, both of Marshall, and Mrs. W. D.

LaRue, 85; Midland Rites MIDLAND (SC) Mrs. Druezilla LaRue, 85, a Midland resident 10 years, died here at 12:40 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services were held Oct. 12 in Newnie W.

Ellis Chapel with burial in Groves Cemetery in Paris directed by Fry Funeral Home. Born in Hardin County Nov. 22, 1876, she married Thomas J. LaRue in Arkansas in 1900. Mr.

LaRue, a farmer, died in 1937. Survivors include three daughters. Mrs. C. L.

Hess, 91, longtime resident of San; Saba, were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 in Johnson's Funeral Chapel of Christ minister, officiating. with Enoch Hutchinson, Church Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery. Mr.

Hess was born Feb. 1. 1871, in Camp County. He was a retired carpenter who had lived of and on in San Angelo for many years. He died Wednesday in Shannon Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lee Harmes, and one son, T. L. Hess, both of San Angelo: two sisters, Mrs. Alma Leach of Oklahoma City and Mrs.

Hosch Funeral Home of Santa Anna is in charge. Mrs. Smith died Oct. 9 at her home here. Born March 3, 1884, in Williamson County, Mrs.

Smith moved to Coleman 65 years ago where her husband was a rancher. Survivors include her husband: two sons, the Rev. Aubrey Chico, and Audus Smith of Odessa; one daughter, Mrs. Loretta York of Abilene: two brothers. Emzy Brown of Santa Anna Ollie Waller: five sisters, Mrs.

Charles Davis; Winters Rites WINTERS (SC) Services for Charles Leonard Davis, 61, who died Oct. 11 in Winters MuniciHospital, were held Saturpal day at Spill Memorial Chapel.

Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery. Mr. Davis suffered a heart at-1 tack Sunday night at the home of a sister, Mrs. Clarence Collins of Winters, with whom he had been living. He was born Jan.

5, 1901, in Indian Territory near the present community of Tishomingo, Okla. After the death of his father in 1932 he moved to the Rio Grande Valley where he lived until his mother's death in 1947. Since that time he had lived with several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two brothers. 0.

Lela Willis of Durant, and Mrs. Dick Robinson of Waynesville, Mo. Charles Cook Of Big Spring Standard-Times News Service BIG SPRING Charles Richard Cook. 25, a teacher in the Big Spring public schools the last two years, died Oct. 10 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services are pending NalleyPickle Funeral Home here. Mr. Cook was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Shamrock. He was a graduate of Shamrock High School and graduated from McMurry College in Abilene in 1958.

He married Rebecca Affleck of Big Spring. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife and a 2-month-old son, Richard Kent Cook. Infant Mathes; Winters Rites WINTERS (SC) Graveside services for Jeffrey Scott Mathes, infant son of Mr. and Mrs.

Benjamin F. Mathes of Abilene, were held at Babyland of Lakeview Cemetery at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 directed by Spill Funeral Home. The child died soon after birth Wednesday in Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

Ellis Chapel with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Mr. Hedges died Oct. 9 after a heart attack at his home. He was a retired water well drilling contractor.

He was born in Midland May 26, 1910. Survivors include his wife: two sons, Farrar G. Hedges and Fred C. Hedges, both of Midland: his mother, Mrs. Ben F.

Rutherford, 77, Rockwood, Retired Farmer SANTA ANNA (SC) George M. Rutherford, 77, retired Rockwood farmer, died Thursday in Santa Anna Hospital after an 11- day illness. Funeral services were held Oct. 13 in the Rockwood Baptist Church with burial in Rockwood Cemetery directed by Hosch Funeral Home of Santa Anna. Mr.

Rutherford was born Jan. 14, 1885, in Tennessee. He came to Coleman County with his parents when he was about 4 years old. He had lived most of his life in and near Rockwood. "He was married to Lula Lee Cooper in 1909.

He was a retired farmer. Survivors include three sons, Tom R. Rutherford of Whon, Willie L. Rutherford of Chino, and Harvey H. Rutherford of Rockwood; three daughters, Mrs.

Wagie Lange of San Angelo, Mrs. A Leona Mae Smith of Iraan and Mrs. Alpha Haney of Sweetwater; two brothers. Sam Rutherford of Santa Anna and Jack Rutherford of Browrwood; one sister, Mrs. Florence Carter of Trickham: 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

H. R. Grauke, 82; Pearsall Rites Funeral services for H. R. Grauke, 82, long-time resident of Runnels County, were held at 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 11 in the First Methodist Church in Pearsall with burial in Pearsall Cemetery directed by Salmon Funeral Home. Mr. Grauke, who had lived for a number of years in Frio County, died Oct. 10 at his home in Pearsall after being seriously ill several days.

He had been in ill health for several months. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Sander of Lytle and Mrs. Bill Collins of Pearsall; and seven sons, R. C.

Votaw, 74 Of San Angelo Standard- Times News Service BIG SPRING Graveside services for Mrs. Rosia Arvella Votaw, 74, were held Oct. 11 at the Monahans City Cemetery directed by Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home. Mrs. Votaw died Oct.

9 at a local hospital following a long illness. She was born Nov. 10, 1887, in Kimble County. She moved to Big Spring in 1951 from Odessa. She made her home here with a daughter, Mrs.

Josephine Martin. Mrs. Votaw was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include one son, M. H.

Votaw of Odessa; four grandchilden and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Benson, 73, Of San Angelo Mrs. Josephine Mary Benson, 73, of N. Magdalen resident of San Angelo 40 years, died at 10:20 a.m., Oct.

11 at Baptist Memorials Hospital. Burial was Saturday in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Benson was born March 8, 1889, in Chicago. She was a dressmaker and alterations lady at Sears-Roebuck Co.

Lillie Mae Ellis, 92, of 35 E. 20th a longtime San Angeloan, were held Oct. 12 in Johnson's Chapel with the Rev. A. V.

Henderson of Baptist Temple Church officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery. Ellis died Thursday morning in Baptist Memorials Hospital. She was born in Iowa July 14, 1870, and was a member of Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs.

Merle Bryan of Shreveport, and Mrs. Maudie McPhaul of Socorro, N. one brother, W. J. Pool of Odessa; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.

Charles Schrader, 67, Of Christoval Standard-Times News Service BIG SPRING Funeral services for Charles Willard Schrader, 67, of Christoval, were held Monday in Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 11 in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1894, in Duluth, Minn.

He was a member of Christoval Lodge 901 AF AM, the Scottish Rite in South Bend, and Shrine Temple in Hammond, Ind. Survivors include his wife of Christoval: one son Charles Schrader; one daughter, Charlotte Schrader; his mother, three sisIters, and two brothers. Rites Held For Victims Of Accident SWEETWATER (SC) Funeral services were held i in Amarillo and Odessa for a Negro man and woman killed in a head-on car-truck collision 2.7 miles west of here at 9 p.m. Saturday. Sylvester Thomas, 37, of Roscoe, who was driver of the car, was buried in Amarillo under direction of Austin Funeral Home.

His companion, Addie Freeman, 43, of Odessa, was buried in Odessa under direction of Prince Funeral Home. Highway patrolmen said Thomas was driving eastward in the wrong direction on the west lane of Interstate 20 when the dent occurred atop an overpass. Driver of the truck, John T. Shoemaker of Jackson, said he was preparing to pass another truck when he met the car headon and could not avoid the collision. Shoemaker sustained a minor knee injury, but was not hospitalized.

Damage, to his truck was estimated $3,000. Miss Freeman was taken to Simmons Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater by a Patterson ambu-, lance. She died about an hour aft-, er the accident. (Arkie) Martin, 73, of 718 W. Ave. were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Johnson's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr.

John Donaho of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Martin, a San Angelo resident 35 years, died Friday afternoon in the VA hospital in Big Spring. He was born Nov.

19, 1888, in Illinois. He was a veteran of World War when he was wounded at the battle of Argonne as a member of a machine gun division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and Elk's Lodge. Survivors his wife; one daughter, Martin San include, Angelo; two brothers, John Johnson of Arkansas and Elbert Johnson of Bakersfield, and one sister, Mrs. Notra South of St.

Louis, Mo. Mrs. Boatright, Funeral Tuesday Mrs. Johnnie Boatright, 39, a former San Angelo resident, died Friday night in a Fort Smith, hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held at p.m.

Wednesday in Johnson's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. R. B. Baker of the Harris Avenue Baptist Church and the Rev. Bryan Ross of the Lake View Baptist Church officiating.

Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Boatright was the daughter of Mrs. J. R.

Burke, 3121 Bowie, and the late Mr. Burke. She lived here most of her life before she and and Johnny moved Boatright were married Smith. She was a graduate of Lake View High School. H. and Charles C. Burke, both of San Angelo and Richard Leon Burke, a Texas Tech student in Lubbock; four sisters, Mrs. W. H.

Mrs. Jones, 95, Mullin Funeral Standard- Times News Service MULLIN Graveside services for Mrs. R. H. Jones, 95, early day settler of Mills County, were held here Saturday in Mullin Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones, wife of the late Dr. R. H. Jones, died Friday in Fort Worth at the home of her daughter, Mrs.

Aubra Wood. A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Mrs. Jones came in 1902 with her husband. He was one of the first doctors to practice in this area.

They were married in Kentucky in May 1893, shortly after Dr. Jones graduated from medical school. Survivors include two other daughters, Mrs. Auril Heyland of Long Mott and Mrs. Opal Brewster of Arlington, Dr.

Vernon Jones of Bartlesville, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildrent. Mrs. Reeves, 73 MIDLAND (SC) Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Dale Reeves, 73, widow of Carl S. Reeves of Midland, were held Monday.

JACKSON C. S. Jackson, Former Mayor; Winters Rites WINTERS (SC) Former Winters Mayor C. S. Jackson, 72, died at his home at 8:20 p.m.

Oct. 11 after suffering a heart attack. Services were held Saturday in the First Methodist Church with burial in Lakeview Cemetery directed by Spill Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson, who retired several years ago, had been a drug.

gist, owned a bakery and served briefly as chamber of commerce manager here. Born Feb. 2, 1890, near Jerrell, he attended school in Belton, later the school of pharmacy at Galveston. and entered the drug business at Belton in 1914. He moved to Winters in 1924 as a druggist, but in 1927 he sold his drug store interest and opened a bakery.

Later when large-city bakeries began wider operations, he closed his bakery and handled Mrs. Baird's products. He served on the city council and was mayor from 1946 to 1950. He was a former steward of the First Methodist Church. Mrs.

Jackson has been a school teacher here more than 25 years. Survivors include his wife: one C. S. Jackson Jr. of Midland: two brothers.

J. D. Jackson of Lampasas and Weaver Jackson of Killeen; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Cowan of Temple and Mrs. Ida Barlow of Wichita Falls: and two grandchildren.

Mrs. B. Hoover, 54, Of Coahoma Standard-Times News Service BIG SPRING Mrs. Bennett Hoover, 54, Coahoma resident most of her life. died at 11 a.m.

Friday at Midland Memorial Hospital. She had been ill several months. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Methodist Church, in Coahoma with burial in Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring directed by Nally-Pickle Funeral, Home. Born July 26.

1908. in Mason. County, she married Bennett Hoov-, er June 7, 1923. at Coahoma. She was a member of the Coahoma Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Hoover was employed by Malone and Hogan Hospital prior to her illness. She also worked for the Big Spring Retail Merchants Association. Survivors include her husband: one son, Gerry Hoover of Big Spring: a sister, Mrs. Billy Childress of Coahoma: a brother, Ray Massey of San Diego, her mother, Mrs.

24. 1876, near Voca in McCulloch County. He had lived for the last 62 years in Valley Spring community and was a retired rancher. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife: five daughters, Mrs.

Funeral services were held on the coast Monday. A brother, John E. Robbins flew to Whittier Saturday to assist with the arrangements. Knox Robbins lived in San Angelo during his childhood and as a young man, attending the public schools here.

He was in the Marine Corps during World War II and was decorated in the Pacific while with the signal division. He was employed by the old San Angelo Telephone before moving to California where he was an employe of the Bell Telephone system. Mr. Robbins and family visited here frequently. Survivors include his wife and two children, Ronel and Cheryl Robbins all of Whittier; his mother Mrs.

John Robbins 910 Austin a sister, Miss Gaynelle Robbins; and the brother. Mrs. E. Brown Monahans Rites MONAHANS (SC) Mrs. Emmett Brown, 66, of Monahans, a former resident of Big Lake, died Friday afternoon in Ward Memorial Hospital here.

She had been in ill health the last 10 years. Funeral services, were held Sunday in Methodist Church with burial in Monahans Cemetery under the direction of Barnes Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown was born April 14, 1896, in Ladonia, and lived in Big Lake about 10 years. She was married to W.

L. Stuart in 1913. Mrs. Brown was married to Emmett Brown in 1939, and they moved to Monahans in 1945. Survivors include her husband: four sons, William Lee Stuart and Stuart, both of Houston, Luthere Stuart of Austin and Doc Stuart of Pampa; two stepsons, Lester Brown of Henderson and John Brown of Shreveport, one sister, Mrs.

liam D. Smith, 89, resident of Runnels County 46 years, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Winters Municipal Hospital. She had been in ill health the last five years and in serious condition nine days. Services were held at 2 p.m.

19, 1874, in Hill County and in 1889 moved with her family to Fort McKavett. She was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. W.

Treadwell. She was married in her home near Menard to the late Danzy Sheen Oct. 17, 1900. The couple moved to Sherwood and in 1902 took up four sections of school land on the Middle Concho River. They made their home on the land for about 10 years.

Mrs. Sheen was widowed in 1912. She then had two sons and two daughters. In 1959, Mrs. Sheen was named mother year by District 6, Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, as an honor for her having reared her family, taught school, worked as Mertzon postmaster and served active civic and church leaderan Mrs.

Sheen was educated in a convent in San Angelo, where she finished high school. She was graduated from the old Kidd-Key College at Sherman, where she received a teacher's certificate. Mrs. Sheen taught nine years in Mertzon, then was appointed mistress, a position she held for 13 years. She was an active member of the Mertzon Christian, Church where she seldom missed Sunday School.

She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1912, and was one of the organizers and a charter member MRS. MAE SHEEN of the Study Club, of which she later served as president. Mrs. Sheen was the last charter member of the Thursday Bridge Club organized in 1918. Always active, Mrs.

Sheen drove her own car until recently, and about three years ago she enrolled for a correspondence course in art from the "Famous Artists" of Westport, Conn. She did a number of paintings, all of which were claimed by members of her family, most before they were completed. After retiring in 1935, Mrs. Sheen took 13 different extension courses from the University of Texas. She read the required eight books for each course, wrote reviews of each and sent them to be graded.

Survivors include two sons, Winston Sheen of Menard and John Sheen of Mertzon; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Fisher of El Paso and Mrs. Stanley Casner of Presidio; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John M. Treadwell of Menard and Bascom B. Treadwell of Uvalde.
